Feigning Concern
My mistress Mukta always makes me sleep outside in the stocks in her back garden – whatever the weather. She says she and her husband, master Simon sir, can’t bear to have me – a mere slave – sleeping under the same roof as them. And rightly so.
Here you see her feigning concern for my wellbeing, due to the heavy rain. But, having made me kiss her feet goodnight, she still walks off and leaves me to an overnight soaking. Again, rightly so – for a slave, unlike his betters, is not entitled to warmth and shelter.
