Good Folk

It's a nice, bright sunny day and the good folk of the Gynarchy are enjoying witnessing the suffering of a prisoner-slave in the town pillory.

In a packed scene, working our way from right to left we can see:

  • A young man in a wheelchair, cheering and applauding the sight of the slave suffering in the pillory
  • A young blonde woman staring straight at the pilloried slave. We can't see the expression on her pretty face, but no doubt she too is smiling and laughing at the hapless prisoner-slave's painful predicament!
  • Another young woman with purple hair, seated on a chair in front of the podium and obviously therefore intending to spend quite some time verbally mocking the slave in the pillory
  • A holidaying couple, fresh from the beach - stopping off by the pillory on their way back to their hotel where they will no doubt be getting ready for their slap-up evening meal
  • A young man in a hoodie, seated on some steps and apparently indifferent to the prisoner-slave's suffering as right now he is preoccupied with the contents of his phone
  • Two intelligent-looking young women relaxing on the podium behind the pillory, enjoying the heat and the sunshine (unlike the sweating prisoner-slave in the pillory!). One of them is even enjoying a glass of wine!
  • Behind them stands a familiar figure of Ms Mukta, enjoying a swig of her refreshing bottled water. Trust Ms Mukta to be spending her free time at the pillory!
  • Directly behind the pillory we can just make out a courting couple enjoying a private, passionate embrace. One wonders if the sight and sound of the prisoner's suffering is turning them on?
  • Further round to the right we see an elderly couple, also lovingly embracing one another as they enjoy the spectacle in front of them
  • On the stage itself we see an opportunistic busker - a flautist entertaining the crowd. Let's hope he makes lots of money at the prisoner-slave's expense!
  • Also up on the stage are two young women taking a selfie of themselves with the pilloried prisoner in the background. Unlike them, he isn't smiling for the camera. Haha - I wonder why?
  • Finally we have the anti-hero of the scene himself - the prisoner-slave. Haha - see how the authorities have hung a huge heavy stone around his confined neck. That's got to hurt! If nothing else, it will keep his humble head suitably bowed and low, and looking at the feet of his superior tormentors gathered around him
  • Note too the coiled-up whip hanging ominously over his head. He is, literally, under the shadow of the whip - a reminder to him of his impending flogging in the pillory tomorrow afternoon! Haha - yes, this prisoner will be spending all night standing in the pillory, long after the good folk of the Gynarchy have retired to their beds!
  • His crime? It appears to have something to do with socks, judging by the humiliating words inscribed on the pillory around his head. Perhaps mixing up his mistress's socks in her sock drawer? Whatever, we can be sure he deserves his public punishment, since he's just a slave!
Tarry here a while, if you wish. The pilloried prisoner isn't going anywhere!
