The slave must kneel on the floor of the train carriage and study his mistress’s shoes and socks throughout her journey. Unlike her, he is not permitted to look out the window at the scenery. Mind you, his mistress’s sneakers and socks are the most important things in the world to him, so why would he wish to look at anything else?
