The ‘footlights’ slave, appropriately enough, has a footslave’s-eye
view of the actors’ FEET and FOOTWEAR as they perform on the stage in front of
him. That’s because his job is not to focus on the play, but on the
actors’ FEET, as befits a footslave.

| Not forgetting, of course, her fellow actor's FEET |
 |
| The footlights slave must have regard for the master-sir's FOOTWEAR also |
 |
| For he too is the footslave's superior! |
 |
| Indeed, the footlights slave is not fit to even think about his betters above their FEET |
 |
| This is his lowly place - staring at the FEET of those above him |
 |
| The audience, meanwhile, are enjoying the performance |
 |
| Not the footlights slave's performance - they barely even notice him! |
 |
| He's just a nothing and a nobody |
 |
| He will never be able to make a name for himself |
 |
| He's just the footlights slave |
