In this household, the slave must prostrate himself in front of his mistress and kiss her feet just as soon as she has barked her haughty orders down at him – by way of a demonstration of his absolute submission to her will, and to reaffirm her female power and authority over him.

No wonder, then, the mistress looks pleased with herself as she leaves the slave to get on with the humiliating task of lickshining her dirty boots!
