In this scene we observe the slave having to kiss the ballet-flats of a backstreet blonde girl, much to her cruel amusement and entertainment. Note how the slave closes his eyes and dare not look at the blonde girl’s sock, lest it distract him from his duties and thus earn him a cut of his Romany mistress’s whip. I’ll wager that whip has wrapped itself many a time around the slave’s ribs in her Romany household. And rightly so!
