This slave's master and mistress are very cultured people. Here you see them looking around an exhibition of ancient Egyptian artefacts. The slave, on the other hand, being thick and uneducated, is kneeling next to his pretty mistress's feet studying her boots and socks. Indeed, the only culture he is permitted to take an interest in are the 'cultures' in his mistress's socks, resulting from her female-footsweat bacteria!
